I am a Canadian living in Denver Colorado, passionate about the human body and dissecting the theory and practice of teaching anatomy.

My doctoral training is in Biological Anthropology (paleoanthropology), and I've been learning and teaching human gross anatomy since 2003. While I continue some work in paleoanthropology, gross anatomy and medical education now form the main focus of my scholarship.

At CU-SOM, I am Assistant Director of Human Body Block, the gross anatomy block for first year medical students. I am also Executive Vice Director of the Master of Science in Modern Human Anatomy program.

In 2017, together with Dr. Adrian Hendrickse (anesthesiologist, University of Colorado Hospital), I developed an Anatomy Cadaver Review Program for residents in the Acute Pain Service.
In 2016, I hosted a group of poetry students from the CU Denver Campus in the gross anatomy lab.
I am currently collaborating with faculty in the Department of English to organize an art exhibit "Mapping the Body: Poetry & Anatomical Art", which will showcase original art and poetry created by our students. The exhibit will open in February 2018 at the Health Sciences Library at the Anschutz Medical Campus. More details to come soon!
Congratulations Hannah Benjamin!
Hannah is the 2017 Sandy Marks Jr award recipient for best education poster at the American Association of Anatomists annual meeting.

This was her independent study project with me, in which we developed and piloted a sustainable Twitter engagement and outreach model for the AACA. A great example of the amazing diversity of projects that our students can get involved with during their MHA degree!

Hannah is starting medical school at CU-SOM in Fall 2017.
